Burr Shafer - cartoonist

I ran across this old cartoon book at a flea market last Saturday in a park in Arlington, Virginia.  It instantly brought back memories from a dinner I had with Burr at a restaurant in Los Angeles called The Carolina Pines on Melrose Avenue.   This was way back in 1954 and The Southern California Cartoonist's Association used to have a get-together once a month, usually at this restaurant.

I distinctly remember Bob Barnes, Al Isler, Phil Interlandi and Burr Shafer being there on that night.  I learned later that Burr owned a music store in nearby Burbank.

Herewith are a few cartoons from the book . . . It was from a syndicated panel he was running for a time . . .
The book was published in 1950 by Vanguard Press..

You can see a little of Lee Lorenz here and there and wonder if Lee DID kinda like this guy or maybe just a coincidence . . .
