Wall Street Journal cartoon - Roy Delgado 7455b

.....................................................................................

This drawing above sold yesterday,
I mailed the finish today.
( The " tweaked " finish is shown below ).

Had to redraw ( actually, tweak ) this here drawing and turn it into the vertical format model like you see below, which  was submitted as the final .

The drawing HAD to be re-submitted more in a VERTICAL format as they request of all their cartoons . . . Since they rearranged their newspaper around, a couple years ago, probably to make more room for information, they ended up shrinking the cartoon to a ONE column wide,
rather than leave it in larger TWO-column wide cartoon as it was for many, many years . . .  Of course, by making the drawing TALLER, it also automatically is forced to
appear LARGER  ( because it is now WIDER, although, actually, the  drawing is printed SMALLER ! ( The WIDTH is smaller, but takes up more space to accomodate
the now taller drawing ).

The gag was written by Van B. Scott III

In this case, it was easiest to
tweak the existing drawing by adding
to the bottom of the image more
"floor space" with the rug dot pattern you see.  I also added a little more to the curtains and buildings in background ( window ).  I also gave the boss' suit
a small dot pattern just to add a little "color".
I also eliminated the painting on the wall, per editor's request because of the small print-size it just added unecessary clutter, which was definately a good choice!
