I love business cartoons . . having worked in my own company for 26 years, it was business every day . . . meeting with my sign shop customers, my employees, hiring, firing, meetings with architects, city planners, committees, bureaucracies in obtaining permits . . . beggars in the street, all happening in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area . . . I loved every minute of it . . . in fact, I miss it in many ways . . .
However, living on top of this mountain in wild and winderful West Virginia has its own rewards, the quietness, solitude, a few birds chirping in the morning proudly showing you a new tune, a couple or five or sometimes 12 deer quietly tip toeing across your front yard . . . this place, since 2001, when I sold my business and retired is really almost like a writer's or painter's, or for that matter, a cartoonist's retreat . . . where one finds creative juices flowing early in the morning and lasts usually for a twelve hour period at least and then your body beckons for rest and nourishment . . . during this period, maybe a little Schubert, Chopin or Dave Brubeck or Coltrane softly in the background, maybe a little Jack Daniels old No. 7 somewhere in the mix . . . it doesn't get any better than this . . . today, gold hits over 1600 per oz., and this time you were wise . . .

" One of the pleasantest things
in the world is going on a journey;
but I like to go by myself. "
