Reminds me of the heavy punnery and slapstick days way back to Milton Berle and Red Skelton . . . You used to see or expect something like this routine on The Milton Berle Show . . . week after week . . . .

 Now, I guess it would fall under the banner of corn . . .
( Actually, it was corn, even back then )  But, I guess, looking back, people were more unsophisticated and could be labeled corny. . .  I guess.
