18045 cartoon of the week - Roy Delgado

Having founded and managed my graphics firm for 26 years ( Roy Delgado & Associates, in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area  ) before selling it in 2001, a scene like this brings memories . . . although I never had to say anything like this, I probably SHOULD have, but I didn't.

My first 15 employees I hired, one at a time, over a 5 year period, went on to stay with me for a long, long time, I ran my company some say like a cult. Nobody would quit.  I remember firing one guy and he wouldn't leave !  I fired him a week later, and STILL, he would not leave . . . every time I fired him, he would become a BETTER employee and a person, I finally said the hell with it.  We got along fine after the third firing  he became a really good employee.  

10 years after I sold the company he calls me on Father's Day and he sends me cigars. 

I recently read an article in The New Yorker magazine ( very recent issue ) about a man named Dalio, who happens to be the founder and head of the world's largest hedge fund.  He is worth 8 billion ( with a B ) Dollars and he says in the piece that HE runs his company like a cult.  I got a kick out of it, reminded me of my own little business.  I recommend you read the article.
