Cartoon of the Day 18385z - Roy Delgado

This drawing appeared as a full page in Cortlandt Forum in July, 1999 ( Page 98 ), a medical journal which was ( used-to-be) a great market for freelance cartoonists, as they also purchased cartoons for a host of other medical magazines under their editorship.

It was not uncommon to get a check for anywhere from $1500.00 to $3000.00 twice or thrice a year.  They used cartoons as spots, half-pagers and some full pagers both in black and white and many times in color.  Rates would vary from 50 to 175+ bucks depending on the size . . . but they would buy a slew at a time !

Then came along The Cartoon Bank and swallowed it up . . . fortunately, they asked me to continue submitting.

About THIS particular cartoon . . . around 1997 or so, this cartoon was purchased by the now defunct " PUNCH " from across the pond in Great Btitain.  Their last cartoon editor, Mike Williams, an extraordinary cartoonist himself and I look up to his great work, was acting as Cartoon Editor at the time, and bought two of my cartoons . . . I don't think they were ever actually published because they were going down the tube at the time they bought them . . the good news, I DID get paid !
