Parade Magazine - Roy Delgado cartoons -Aug 31/2014

Both of these cartoons appeared in this Sunday's Parade Magazine in the Cumberland Times, ( Cumberland, MD )
I understand that different Parades in different parts of the country display different cartoons. ( B-o-o-o-H-i-s-s )
The Washington Post used to deliver the Sunday Post around
Petersburg here where I live but apparently their delivery person
up and quit about 5 weeks ago, so what I do now is buy the Cumberland Sunday paper wuich does carry the Parade.

Interesting factoid . . . Both of these cartoons were drawn
approximately 10 years ago . . . goes to show you . . . I always thought both were winners . . . and after all these years with The New Yorker  and all the others rejecting them, Pow !,  a major market like Parade buys about 20 from me in three weeks !
All oldies !  It's a good thing we get paid for this because even if there was no such thing as money,  I'd  STILL
be  writing and drawing cartoons anyway!
Maybe I'm living in a " Fool's Paradise " . . .

New Yorker-rish - Cartoon of the Day - Roy Delgado

---------------------------------

This is one of my favorite cartoons I've done in the past 10 years.
I can see it as clear as anything in The New Yorker . . . BUT, what the hell do I know.

------------------------------------

My internet service has been interrupted for three days and have been unable to access the
internet world and my blog, and answer my emails . . . a new modem is on the way from my provider via UPS, no more breakdowns for awhile . . . the old modem is 10-11 years old, gotta mail it back, so, I guess, they can reboot it, slip in a couple $4.95 chips from Radio Shack, and bingo, it'll be updated and ready for another sap, e-r-rr, I mean customer.

15159 - Cartoon of the Day - Roy Delgado

This cartoon reminds of everytime I go into a new large office building, maybe to visit a doctor at a huge HMO or maybe when I used to visit a customer at a huge association on K Street in Washington, D.C., and they would lead me through a maze of offices to a little obscure out of the way office to see my appointment and then they expect you to get back out the way you came in . . . I always feel stupid, until I found out it is a very common problem . . . Was it TWO lefts after the first RIGHT . . OR was it GO STRAIGHT, past the first SIX offices, THEN turn right at the water fountain, THEN go RIGHT past the copy machine . . and then, they ALWAYS say,  " YOU CAN'T MISS IT ! "

Reader's Digest Cartoon - Roy Delgado

This drawing appears on page 186 in the September 2011 issue of the Reader's Digest Magazine.

They were wise in printing it large, almost a half-page, because the small helicopter emerging from the bottle would have made it unintelligible in print.

Obviously, this is a take-off on the old cliche of the model ship in a bottle sitting on the mantle.

--------------------------------------------

Reminds me of the old joke . . . a sailor talking to a civilian pointing to a ship in a bottle on the mantle . . . the sailor says:  " You think getting a ship in a bottle is hard, you ought to try getting a bottle on a ship ! "

Ouch . . .  sorry if you've heard it, but there is always some young person out there who hasn't heard it, and that is what I'm hoping for . . .

7781 American Legion cartoon - Roy Delgado

Here's an oldie one I just sold today Monday, August 15, 2011 . . .  the "okay" submitted was a black and white line drawing, and it called for color and here shown is the finish.  This was first rejected by the following before selling to American Legion: Good Housekeeping, First for Women, Reader's Digest, Barron's, Medical Economics, Wall Street Journal, Saturday Evening Post, Woman's World, Cortlandt Forum and Lion Magazine . . .

You never know when you'll strike gold . . . a pleasant surprise at my post office visit . . . along with a Playboy sale ( I have to do in color, plus a cartoon published today in Easy Riders magazine, along with a check and a complimentary issue of the magazine . . . also, I received my complimentary September issue of Playboy magazine in which I have a Wizard of Oz cartoon on page 10.

17549 Cartoon of the Day - Roy Delgado

This particular gag reminds me of a gem which was bought by Guccione . . . The guy, instead, is saying: " He reminds me of the son I never had.  It's the reason I had a vasectomy. "

I often thought the reason he bought it was because of the vitriol between one of his sons and him, who were not on speaking terms, and maybe, subconsciously it was a dig at the situation . . . I shoulda been a shrink, always trying to second-guess the world.

It's a lot of fun, but can land you in hot water too . . .
